Acupuncture originated in China over 2500 years ago and works to restore and re-balance the body. At Chicago Holistic Medicine, we believe in the body mind innate healing wisdom and facilitate its return to the natural state-health. Imagine the body with many channels through which energy flows. When the energy along these channels becomes blocked, pain or other imbalances result. Eventually, if this process is not adjusted, disease results.
With Acupuncture we help to harmonize and strengthen the body’s energy. Acupuncture strengthens the immune system, reduces stress, improves circulation and helps regulate many other bodily functions. Other complementary treatments include cupping, gua sha, electric stimulation, TDP heat lamp, dietary recommendations and lifestyle counseling.
Chinese Herbal Medicine has been used for more than 2500 years. Traditional Chinese Herbs are typically used in formulas of 1 to 20 individual herbs (usually 8-12). The formula is customized for each patient’s condition and is specific to their current symptoms. This is part of the sophistication of this ancient medicine! We have a full Herbal Pharmacy with both Powders (granules taken as tea) and Tablets (pills). Herbs are natural and help to restore balance and harmony.
Food therapy is an important component of the healing process. Our conditions and symptoms can be helped and managed with our diet. Each food has its own properties (flavors and temperatures), affecting different systems and conditions in the body. Watermelon, for example has a cooling and nourishing effect; that’s why it’s so refreshing in the summer when we feel hot and dehydrated. What we eat has a profound effect on our health and wellness. We believe in a whole foods diet as ‘close to the earth’ as possible, including fresh fruits & vegetables, whole grains and minimal sugars, additives and processed foods.
